Facts About the Rottweilers Dog Breed

1. Rottweilers Are Roman Dog Decedent

Rottweilers are counted as the oldest dogs, originating in the era of the roman empire in the city of Rottweil. The German drover dogs are the ancient ancestors of Rottweilers. The job of Rottweilers is to march with the army and protect their lives and livestock.

In the long history, Rottweilers are used to perform different jobs like guarding the cattle and protecting humans and are now also used to serve the police and army.

2. The Livestock Guardians

As their ancestors were drovers whose job was to herd the cattle of the Roman army, the rottweiler was likewise used for herding.

At the peak of the Russian empire, when they were extending their army, feeding them was the real problem. In those days, they started to use Rottweiler puppies who heard the livestock that ran with those military men. Now they are treated like sheep and shepherd dogs.

In German Rotties are called Rottweiler Metzgerhund which means the butcher’s dog. This name shows the role of a rottweiler as the guard of butchered meat. The butchers use them to pull the meat cart and carry it to the market. Later on, with the development of fast means of transport, this role was replaced.

3. They Are Your Money Guard

Considering their strength and high level of loyalty, people also use them as money guards. Cattlemen and butchers use this dog to guard their money. They hang their money bags in the neck of their rottweiler dog so the thieves don’t dare to touch those bags.

4. The New Role of Rotties As Police Dogs

Before the 19th-century, Rottweilers were considered as all-in-one solution puppies, but in the early 19th, their role became extinct due to railway hauling. But soon, the police department started to use the Rotties due to its strength.
