Easy 3-Ingredient Sweet Potato Dog Cookies (Healthy & Homemade)

3-Ingredient Sweet Potato Dog Cookies

Looking for a wholesome, homemade treat your dog will love? These sweet potato dog cookies are just the thing! Made with only three natural ingredients, they’re not only easy to make but also packed with nutrients your pup will benefit from.

Why Sweet Potato?

Sweet potatoes are a fantastic source of fiber, vitamins A and C, and antioxidants. They’re gentle on your dog’s tummy and add a natural sweetness that dogs go crazy for—no need for added sugars!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup mashed sweet potato: Ensure it’s cooked and cooled. Sweet potatoes are rich in fiber and vitamins A and C, promoting healthy digestion and immune function.
  • 1 cup rolled oats or oat flour: Oats are a great source of fiber and are gentle on your dog’s stomach.
  • 1 egg: Acts as a binding agent and adds a protein boost.

Everything turns out great in the oven—but wondering about the air fryer? That works perfectly too! And if you haven’t added one to your kitchen yet, I highly recommend it—it saves a ton of time. Here’s the one I use:

  • LESS FAT: Now enjoy guilt-free food. Air fry with up to 75% less fat than traditional frying methods. Tested against hand-cut, deep-fried French...
  • WIDE TEMPERATURE RANGE: 105°F-400°F allows you to gently remove moisture from foods or quickly cook and crisp foods with convection heat.
  • FAMILY-SIZED CAPACITY: 4-quart ceramic-coated nonstick basket and crisper plate fit 2 lbs of French fries.

How to Make the Cookies (Instructions):

  • Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Prepare the Dough: In a mixing bowl, combine the mashed sweet potato, oats (or oat flour), and egg. Mix until a sticky dough forms. If the dough is too wet, add more oats; if too dry, add a splash of water.
  • Shape the Cookies: Scoop small portions of the dough and roll them into balls. Flatten each ball into a cookie shape using your hand or the back of a spoon. You can also use a cookie cutter (bone-shaped ones are adorable!)
  • Bake: Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until they are firm and slightly golden.
  • Cool: Allow the cookies to cool completely before serving them to your dog.

Tips:

  • Don’t have oat flour? Just blend rolled oats in a food processor until fine.
  • Use silicone molds for fun shapes and an easier cleanup.
  • You can add a pinch of cinnamon for flavor—but skip any added sugar or sweeteners, especially xylitol, which is toxic to dogs.

Storage Tips:

  • Store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
  • For longer storage, refrigerate for up to two weeks or freeze for up to three months.

Customization Ideas:

  • Flavor Boost: Add a pinch of cinnamon or a tablespoon of xylitol-free peanut butter for extra flavor.
  • Alternative Ingredients: Substitute sweet potato with pumpkin or banana if your dog prefers different flavors.
  • Grain-Free Option: Use coconut flour instead of oats for a grain-free version. Note that coconut flour absorbs more moisture, so adjust the quantity accordingly.

Final Thoughts:

These 3-ingredient sweet potato dog cookies are a fantastic way to provide your dog with a healthy treat made from wholesome ingredients. They’re easy to make, customizable, and sure to be a hit with your canine companion.
