Weimaraner Beagle Mix History

The Weimaraner Cross Beagle is a designer dog breed that results from breeding the Beagle and the Weimaraner.

While the Beagiraner is a unique and relatively new hybrid dog, both breeds have a long history.

The Weimaraner History

The Weimaraner hails from Germany where the breed was used for hunting big game like deer and bears.

These dogs were preferred by the nobles of a German region called Weimar because of their intelligence, resilience, and speed.

The dogs were cherished and protected, and a Weimaraner Club was created so only club members could own them.

As big game declined in numbers, Weimaraners were used for hunting smaller game like birds.

An American club member named Howard Knight bred the dog in America in the 1930s and developed the breed standard. The breed was officially recognized by the AKC in 1943.

Weimaraner Dog History

The Beagle History

Beagles were bred from Hounds that were previously used for hunting in France, England, and Wales. A version known as Pocket Beagles was used for hunting and could fit in the pocket.

The Beagle was prized for hunting foxes, rabbits, jackals, and wild pigs. Although these dogs are known to hunt in packs, they are currently mainly used as family companions.

Grooming Needs

Feeding and Diet

The Beagiraner does not need a special diet. Like other dogs, Beagiraners should do well eating high quality dog food that is ideal for their size, age, and activity level.

Generally, Beagiraners will need 2 to 3 cups of high-quality kibble each day.

They should also benefit from wild Alaskan salmon oil, probiotics, and multivitamins.

Also, frozen carrots make great chew toys for dogs while helping to improve their dental health. Moreover, carrots are a great source of vitamin A, fiber and potassium.

You also need to watch your pup’s calorie intake and weight level. Dog treats can be an ideal aid for training, but offering too many treats at the same time can lead to obesity.

Last but certainly not least, give your canine companion fresh water each day to help ensure he is properly hydrated.

The Beagle Weimaraner Mix has an average lifespan of about 10 to 15 years.

Weimaraner Beagle Mix Health Issues

The most common conditions for these parent breeds include hypothyroidism, skin problems, eye issues, patellar luxation, Addison’s disease and Von Willebrand’s Disease.
